Educational App Development

Educational apps, interactive books and learning activities for children, publishers and education teams. Built for iOS, Android and browsers around your audience and content.

Pubbly

Interactive books and learning activities

XGameDev contributes games, interactive books and maths activities within Pubbly's existing custom 2D engine. The work supports a growing library of browser-based learning content.

Educational software for the way your learners use it

XGameDev develops educational apps, interactive books and learning activities for publishers, education providers and product teams. We build for iOS, Android and browsers, with the delivery route chosen around the audience, content and available devices.

Our experience includes children's reading and maths activities, connected content libraries, classroom games and outdoor learning. Based in Australia, we work with clients internationally, including education businesses in the United States.

Learning products we have worked on

Pubbly uses its own 2D engine for interactive learning. XGameDev works within that existing engine and content pipeline to develop educational games, interactive books and maths activities. This is ongoing contribution to the client's product library.

NoMeLoMe brought animated books, puzzles, quizzes, music and video into a connected content-delivery product. Our work covered the Unity application and supporting backend, content-management and media-processing systems.

Step Out Academy takes learning outdoors on iOS and Android. Our contributions include the Unity AR app, learning activities, QR journeys, connected sessions and mobile 3D content.

These projects represent different briefs. A single counting activity needs a different production plan from a library of interactive books or a location-based app used by a class.

Children's apps for iOS and Android

A children's educational app starts with the intended age group and the activity. We work with your content specialists to turn a learning objective into controls, prompts and feedback that fit the audience.

The brief should identify reading demands, audio needs, touch-target size and the role of a parent or teacher. If children will test the product, agree how that testing will be organised and who will review the results. Learning outcomes need evaluation with the intended learners; a working app alone does not establish them.

We can scope one shared application for iOS and Android, with device testing and release work for each platform. Browser delivery may be preferable where classroom access needs to start from a link. Accessibility, privacy and account requirements belong in the initial brief so they can inform the design and testing.

Interactive books, activities and content libraries

Educational content can combine text, narration, animation and interaction. We can build an individual activity or the systems that deliver a collection, including content selection, media loading and progress features agreed for the product.

For a growing library, we also consider how new content reaches the app. NoMeLoMe involved media-processing and content-management work; Pubbly requires development within an established custom engine. We assess your existing assets and authoring process before proposing a replacement or extension.

Classroom use and learning-system connections

Teachers may need session controls, learner access and reports. An LMS connection can add completion and scoring requirements, while an outdoor activity may need cached content for unreliable reception. These are separate scope decisions, with acceptance checks in the actual environment.

Our training simulation service covers procedure practice and assessment-focused software. For a product centred on game mechanics, see serious and educational game development. We can also support interactive learning content and LMS work.

Start with one complete activity

An early build should let a learner complete the main task, receive feedback and reach a clear finish. That gives you something useful to review before producing a full library or extending the platform.

Send the audience's age range, learning objective, sample content, target devices and any reporting needs. Tell us whether you need a new product, more activities in an existing engine, or help preparing an app for release.

Questions about your project

Can you develop educational iOS apps for children?

Yes. We scope iOS and Android learning apps around the age group, activity and available content. Agreeing reading level, audio, touch controls and device testing is part of the brief.

Can you work with our educational content or existing engine?

Yes. Pubbly is an example of our work inside a client's custom engine and content pipeline. We review your material and technology before agreeing how to extend it.

Can the app record learner progress?

We can scope progress, completion and scoring features, including an LMS connection where required. The brief needs to identify the reporting platform, account model and information it should receive.

Discuss your learning app

Send a short brief with your audience, target devices and the help you need. Jacques or Melanie will reply within one business day.
