Branded Game Development

Browser games and playable campaign experiences for brands, agencies and public organisations, with a clear scope from first concept to launch.

XGameDev builds branded games, campaign mini-games and interactive HTML5 activities for brands, agencies and public organisations. We turn an agreed campaign idea into a game people can play on your website or the devices named in the brief.

For a campaign, the launch date, audience and route into the game matter as much as the mechanic. We plan the first screen, controls, loading budget, completion message and next action around that context.

Campaign work you can inspect

For Knobby's Guac-n-Roll, we explored three prototype concepts before developing a whack-a-mole-style browser game for a product launch. Knobby supplied the artwork. Melanie implemented the game in Construct 3, and we integrated PlayFab leaderboards. The case study describes the two-month project; it is not a standard delivery promise for every campaign.

For the City of Melville, we developed an interactive waste-sorting ad for the council's website. This was a public-education activity with its own audience and accessibility requirements, separate from a retail promotion or an ad-network placement.

Branded games, advergames and playable ads

A branded game or advergame gives a campaign its own playable experience. It may live on a campaign page, run as an embedded activity or appear on event devices. Its artwork, mechanics and feedback should make sense for the brand and the time people have available.

A playable ad is a smaller interaction delivered within an advertising placement. Networks can impose specific limits on packaging, file size, external requests and click behaviour. Supply the destination and current technical requirements before we quote. A game that works on your website is not automatically ready for an ad network.

An interactive explainer can fit a brief where exploration matters more than competition. Our Food Bio Energy project used a Construct 2 city scene to explain a recycling process through information points.

Delivery details to settle early

  • Entry: a website link, QR code, embedded frame or a device already open at an event.
  • Audience and session: how people discover it, the likely time available and whether replay is useful.
  • Assets: who provides brand guidelines, characters, animation, sound and approved copy.
  • Platform: target browsers, screen sizes, orientation, touch or keyboard controls, and hosting arrangements.
  • Connected features: whether scores, accounts or leaderboards are needed and who operates the backend.
  • Launch: review milestones, the final content deadline, release checks and the support window.

HTML5 and Construct suit many compact browser games. A campaign involving installed mobile software or interactive 3D may need a different approach. See augmented reality development for mobile AR work, or interactive HTML5 content for the wider browser service.

Measure the interaction that matters

Agree the campaign's intended action before adding tracking. Starts, completions, replays and visits to a product page answer different questions. A leaderboard score does not establish a sales result, and longer play time is not automatically better if the activity is confusing.

We can scope the required events and reporting connection with your analytics team. Personal data collection, consent, competition terms and reward fulfilment need named client owners. Anonymous play can be sufficient for a short campaign.

Agency collaboration and handover

We can implement a supplied design, develop concepts with your team or take on a defined technical build. Agree source access, third-party asset licences, deployment ownership and post-campaign maintenance in the scope. If the central mechanic is still uncertain, game prototyping can establish it before production.

Send the campaign objective, audience, planned launch, available artwork and intended placement. Our project brief guide provides a short structure you can share with your team.

Can you build from our agency design and artwork?

Yes. We can implement supplied designs and assets, develop concepts with your team or own a defined technical build. Asset rights, approval milestones and delivery responsibilities are agreed in the scope.

Is a website game the same as a playable ad?

No. An ad placement can impose packaging, file-size, external-request and click-handling requirements. Supply the destination network and its current requirements so the build can be scoped and tested for it.

Can the game include a leaderboard?

Leaderboards can be scoped with the required backend, score rules, moderation and operating arrangements. Guac-n-Roll used PlayFab leaderboards; the right setup depends on the campaign.
